Rock Raiders use various Mining Tools in their digging and searching for energy crystals. These tools can either be used by the Rock Raiders themselves, or they can also use tools that are mounted on mining Vehicles.
Rock Raider Tools
These tools can all be carried and used by Rock Raiders.
Drill
The Drill is the most basic mining tool, and is used for drilling various walls. It takes four seconds to drill Dirt, eight seconds to drill Loose Rock, and ten seconds to drill Seams. They, however, cannot drill through Hard Rock.
Shovel
The Shovel tool is used for digging up Rubble to either clear up a path, making it easier for Rock Raiders to walk across, or to dig up useful Ore. It takes at least four seconds to shovel Rubble. It is also used to build Power Paths and patch together lava-eroded terrain.
Hammer
The Hammer is used for Reinforcing Walls, which keeps the wall from causing Land Slides and prevents Monsters from emerging.
Spanner
The Spanner is used for repairing damaged buildings. Rock Raiders must be trained as Engineers to use this tool (however, they can still carry it).
Weapons
See Main Article: Weapons
Weapons are used for defending Rock Raider HQ from Enemies.
Dynamite
Dynamite is used for blasting away various walls. Unlike the the basic Drill, Dynamite can blast through Hard Rock. The use of this tool is rather dangerous, and can do heavy amounts of damage to Rock Raiders. Raiders must be trained as Explosive Experts to use this tool.
GeoScanner
See Main Article: Radar
When a Rock Raider trains as a Geologist, they are given a GeoScanner (once called a GeoLocater, though not referred to directly in-game), which is used for mapping out the surrounding geology. This is an extremely useful tool when mining, which allows one to figure out where to drill.
Jetpack
Axle, Bandit, Docs, Jet, and Sparks have a Jetpack fitted onto their uniforms, allowing them to jump over large lakes of water, acid, and lava, as well as allowing them to escape from Enemies. When used, a red light is seen. Jet had her jetpack modified to jump twice as high as the others’.
The jetpacks only appear in the PlayStation game.
Vehicle Mounted Tools
Certain Vehicles carry mounted tools to drill away Rock faster and more effectively.
Small Drills
Small Drills, used by small vehicles, are about the same as Rock Raider drills. However, they are capable of drilling through Hard Rock, and they can also be upgraded to drill faster.
Cargo Holds
Cargo Holds are used primarily by small vehicles. Holds can also be added to the Loader Dozer, and can carry Ore, Energy Crystals, and Electric Fences in multiple quantities. The Small Transport Truck can carry up to 3 Ore or Energy Crystals (6 if upgraded), and can also carry fences.
Scoop
The Scoop is a giant cargo holder used for the purposes of carrying many or large objects. There are two Scoops in the sets: One on the Chrome Crusher and one on the Tunnel Transport. In the Playstation game, the Tunnel Transport uses a Scoop to pick up water and drop it on lava, cooling it into ground.
Large Drills
Large Drills are the most powerful mining tools in the game, and are used only by large vehicles. They drill through Dirt, Loose Rock, Hard Rock, and Seams in seconds. They can be upgraded to drill even faster.
Large Cargo Holds
Large Cargo Holds are used to carry smaller vehicles, rather than Ore and Energy Crystals. The only vehicle that can do this in the unmodified game is the Cargo Carrier. However, certain modifications have given the unused Tunnel Transport this capability.
Mining Lasers
Mining Lasers used by small and large vehicles alike, as well as by the Mining Laser Building, are an alternative method to Drills. For the most part, they are usually less effective, mainly because most of them drain Energy Crystals, and take longer to mine walls than drills. Also, they can be used as guns to blast enemies though using Rock Raiders with guns are more efficient. They can also be somewhat hazardous, as they can damage Rock Raiders and Vehicles as well.
Radars
See Main Article: Radar
Much like the GeoScanners given to Rock Raiders, Radars can also be mounted on vehicles.
