Official render of the Chrome Crusher

If you are looking for the set, go here

The Chrome Crusher, also known as the Giant Drilling Vehicle, is the most powerful mining vehicle in the Rock Raiders fleet. It is a massive, four-wheeled vehicle equipped with nearly every vehicle-mounted tool. On one side of the cockpit is a large drill, and on the other side a radar dish - which sides they're on varies between depictions. It also has a huge cargo hold, and mounted above that is a mining laser. Like most large vehicles, its cockpit is protected by a roll cage; it can carry two drivers, though it's usually shown with just one. The Chrome Crusher has become an icon of the Rock Raiders theme and features prominently in nearly every piece of media.

In the Windows version of LEGO Rock Raiders, the Chrome Crusher is classified as a large vehicle, and requires five Energy Crystals for power. A Rock Raider must be trained as a driver to use a Chrome Crusher.

Official render of the Chrome Crusher with drill upgrade

The Chrome Crusher moves at a sluggish 0.3 blocks per second, but makes up for it by being an extremely powerful drilling machine. It takes 0.4 seconds to drill Dirt, 0.8 seconds to drill Loose Rock, and only one second to drill Hard Rock and Seams. Along with a Large Drill, the Chrome Crusher is also equipped with a very powerful Mining Laser that can be used by double-selecting the vehicle. An Energy Crystal will be drained for every two shots fired with the Laser. The Laser has much greater effectiveness to the Mining Laser Building (even without the drill upgrade). Also, like all Laser-equiped units, it can be quite useful as a weapon against Monsters. It can mine Dirt in 6 shots, Loose Rock in 13 shots, Hard Rock in around 18 shots, and Seams in around 30 shots.[verify]

Despite possessing a radar and cargo hold, neither of these are functional in-game.

Upgrades

A fully upgraded Chrome Crusher

There are two upgrades available for the Chrome Crusher:

  • Drill: Costs 20 pieces of Ore
This adds a second drill to the vehicle, making it plow through walls in less than a second. It now only takes 0.2 seconds to drill Dirt, 0.4 second for Loose Rock, and 0.5 seconds to drill Hard Rock and Seams. The number of shots the laser takes to mine walls are also halved.[verify]
  • Engine: Costs 15 pieces of Ore
Doubles the vehicle's route speed from 0.3 blocks per second to 0.6 blocks per second.
