The Granite Grinder is a Large Vehicle, and one of two Giant Drilling Vehicles (the other being the Chrome Crusher). It is a large walker with one mounted Large Drill. Like other ground-based vehicles, it can only be ridden by a Rock Raider that has been trained as a Driver. Although by default it moves at a relatively slow speed of 0.5 squares/sec, it is fairly quick with drilling. It takes 0.8 seconds to drill through Dirt, 2 seconds for Loose Rock, 180 seconds (3 minutes) for Hard Rock, and 4 seconds for Seams.

There are three upgrades available for the Granite Grinder.

Scanner

This puts a Radar aboard the vehicle, with a scanning radius of 5 squares.

• Costs 5 Ore

Engine

This upgrades the vehicle's speed from 0.5 squares/sec to 0.8 squares/sec.

• Costs 20 Ore

Drill

This adds a second Large Drill to the vehicle. It now only takes 0.4 seconds to drill Dirt, 1 second for Loose Rock, and 150 seconds (2 and a half minutes) to drill Hard Rock, and 2 seconds for Seams.
