Many fans consider it non-canon, but that is mostly due to the belief that the [[Rock Raider Characters|Rock Raiders]] are portrayed somewhat out of character. However, the book is really expanding upon them, as less information on them is in the other sources. Outside of a few minor inconsistencies, there is nothing in the games that proves it is non-canon.
This book contains several inconsistencies from other media. One of the biggest issues is the inside of the [[L.M.S. Explorer]]; The bridge is small, and everyone is strapped into chairs with control sticks. Even worse, the ship is called the ''H.M.S.. Explorer'' (though this may prove that '''L.M.S.''' is a pun on ''His/Her Majesties' Ship''). Sparks also never leaves the L.M.S. Explorer. On Planet U, [[Rockwhales]] look different than they do in the [[Rock Raiders PS1 Game|Playstation Game]], having lips and pupils. Slimy Slugs are also a neon-green color.

Plot

The novel tells, from Jet’s point-of-view and in greater detail, the events on Planet U. The book begins with the LMS Explorer heading on a return course to home base when the ship is bombarded by asteroids and sucked through a wormhole. Winding up in an unfamiliar system, the Rock Raiders are sent down to the nearest planet to mine Energy Crystals.
