Plot

The novel tells, from Jet’s point-of-view and in greater detail, the events on Planet U. The book begins with the LMS Explorer heading on a return course to home base when the ship is bombarded by asteroids and sucked through a wormhole. Winding up in an unfamiliar system, the Rock Raiders are sent down to the nearest planet to mine Energy Crystals.

Details

Many fans consider it non-canon, but that is mostly due to the belief that the Rock Raiders are portrayed somewhat out of character. However, the book is really expanding upon them, as less information on them is in the other sources. Outside of a few minor inconsistencies, there is nothing in the games that proves it is non-canon.

This book contains several inconsistencies from other media. One of the biggest issues is the inside of the L.M.S. Explorer; The bridge is small, and everyone is strapped into chairs with control sticks. Even worse, the ship is called the H.M.S.. Explorer (though this may prove that L.M.S. is a pun on His/Her Majesties' Ship). Sparks also never leaves the L.M.S. Explorer. On Planet U, Rockwhales look different than they do in the Playstation Game, having lips and pupils. Slimy Slugs are also a neon-green color.

The characters of the Rock Raiders are expanded on, however. Tiny back-stories are given on some characters, such as how Chief lost his arm. Personalities are grown on, such as Sparks' coffee addiction, or Axle's jokes. However, many fans actualy use this as an excuse for calling the book non-canon.

Unlike the Interactive Puzzle Storybook, Lava Monsters look like they do in the games. Granite Grinders are also shown as being able to jump.
