The Tunnel Scout is a flying vehicle used by the Rock Raiders for advanced reconnaissance. It is a small jet-propelled helicopter that can transport a Rock Raider across land, water, and lava, keeping its pilot out of trouble with its high speed. It appears exclusively in the Rock Raiders video games, though the Kabaya promotional set 1276 3 Heli Transporter is similar to it.
In the Windows game
In the Windows version of LEGO Rock Raiders, the Tunnel Scout is classified as a small vehicle, and requires three Energy Crystals for power. A Rock Raider must be trained as a pilot to use a Tunnel Scout.
The Tunnel Scout is a fairly fast vehicle, capable of moving at 2.5 blocks per second. It is one of three vehicles that can cross water and the only vehicle in the game that is able to cross lava, making it especially useful in levels with erosion, and generally overshadowing both the Hover Scout and the Rapid Rider. There are no upgrades available for this vehicle.
Appearances
- In 4. Moving Rock Raider Vehicles, a Tunnel Scout serves as the third and final vehicle that the player must train a Rock Raider to use and navigate across the level.
- In Search 'n' Rescue, an abandoned Tunnel Scout can be found at the beginning of the second river.
- In Run The Gauntlet, a Tunnel Scout can be found in a secret room with a small lava pool. This allows the player to skip taking the Cargo Carrier across the lake, at the cost of having to get out of the Tunnel Scout to drill walls.
Dependency
The Tunnel Scout costs 3 Energy Crystals and requires the following for teleportation:
- Rock Raider
- Tool Store [UP1]
- Teleport Pad [UP2]
- Power Station [UP1]
- Support Station [UP1]
In the PlayStation game
The Tunnel Scout appears very frequently in the PlayStation version of LEGO Rock Raiders, usually when the player needs to travel quickly over lava or multiple bodies of water. In two-player levels Occasionally, it needs to be built and teleported; in all of these cases, it costs 4 pieces of LEGO Ore to do so. In some levels, such as Trouble Down the Mine, the player needs to use a Tunnel Transport to travel back and forth between other vehicles at different locations. The Tunnel Scout flies high off the ground, allowing it to pass over smaller enemies such as Spiders; this also means that it passes over pickups, and the player has to land on top of or near them to collect them, potentially putting themself in danger.
