A Monster is an enemy in Lego Rock Raiders. It lives primarily on Energy Crystals. Monsters have glowing eyes and a body similar to that of a. They were apparently once intelligent creatures but, over time, their species reverted to a more savage state.

Threat

Monsters can emerge from any wall (except Solid Rock), and will initially aim for any Energy Crystals nearby. They are also occasionally found rolled up into a ball, asleep. They can be easily woken up if a Rock Raider gets too close to them. If no rocks or other projectiles are immediately available, they will gather a rock chunk from a nearby wall (destroying any Reinforced Walls in the process), and begin walking toward the Rock Raider HQ. They will attack Rock Raider buildings to get to the Energy Crystals that were used for the requisite structure's construction. They will attack any vehicle or Rock Raider that gets in their way.

A Monster's main attack is a fierce punch that does 10 damage to whatever it hits. Boulders will do the same amount of damage. Monsters can also pick helpless Rock Raiders up and toss them into the air. However, they dislike traveling in open caverns, and they take 0.6 damage every second while roaming around that cavern. When they only have 20 health left, they will retreat back into the cavern walls (including Solid Rock), which can also destroy Reinforced Walls. They typically move at 0.8 squares/sec on normal ground. They move 1.5 times this speed while walking across rubble, and half this speed while walking across Power Paths, which they invariably destroy as soon as they step on them.

Monsters have many other attacks they use. In the Playstation game, their stomps, rather than scaring Rock Raiders like in the PC Game, actually send out a shockwave that damages the player's shield. In several books, Ice Monsters and Lava Monsters have had breath-based attacks.

Monster Types

There are three types of monster:

Defense

They can be attacked using the three Rock Raider weapons, namely the Pusher Beam, Laser Beam, and Freezer Beam. The effectiveness of each or these weapons depends on the Monster type. The most effective HQ defense for Monsters is the Electric Fence, which will kill any monster instantly when they cross its path. When they are killed, they crumble into nothing but pebbles and (usually) harmless Tiny Monsters, also leaving any Energy Crystals that the Monster ate.

File

The locations where Monsters Emerge are designated in the Emrg.map file. Sleeping Monsters are designated in the OL file like other objects.

Tiny Monsters are a harmless form of Monsters. Whenever a Monster dies, it crumbles into pebbles and these Tiny Monsters. This is thought to be how the species reproduces itself. Tiny Monsters, when formed, are relatively harmless, running around the base until they find a wall to climb through. Those that do not find a wall will either crumble and vanish altogether or simply get tired of running and stand in one place (though they appear to be running in place).

Characteristics

On rare occasions they can obstruct the construction of new Buildings by standing on the construction spaces (the building cannot be teleported until all unnecessary Objects are removed from the area). They move around at about 1.2 squares per second, but 1.5 times this speed on Rubble. Unlike full-grown Monsters, they are not slowed down by paths, nor do they attempt to destroy them.

Tiny Monsters are often a miniature version of the Monster type that birthed them (with the exception of Lava Monsters, which break up into Tiny Rock Monsters, though in High Adventure, Deep Underground miniature Lava Monsters are formed). They are very easily frightened and will typically stay as far away from any Rock Raider as possible, as well as larger monsters. They cannot be destroyed, however, if a Sonic Blaster is placed on top of a motionless one, it will get scared off and run to a different location. They, along with Small Spiders, are the only Enemies not to appear on the Radar.

Threats pose a danger to Rock Raiders HQ and mining operations in general in the PC Game and Playstation Games. Threats come in many different forms and are of varying urgency. Generally threats can either be classified as Enemies, or Environmental Threats. There are ways of defending against almost every threat in the game, and knowing how to defend Rock Raiders HQ from these threats is key to progressing through each Level.

Enemies

Enemies, which can also be referred to simply as Creatures, are living entities on Planet U which pose a threat to mining operations. These include:

Environmental Threats

Environmental Threats are threats that are simply posed from the environment of the cavern itself. These include:

Other Threats

Other threats include Slimy Slug Holes, from which Slimy Slugs emerge, and Power Surges, a possible Glitch in the game.
