Official render of the Geological Center

The Geological Center is a building used by Rock Raiders for scanning the surrounding area for hidden caverns, along with precious energy crystal and ore seams. Like most Rock Raiders buildings, it did not appear in any LEGO sets, though its radar is identical to the one mounted onto the Chrome Crusher in the set 4970 Chrome Crusher.

In the Windows game

In LEGO Rock Raiders for Windows, the Geological Center is one of the four buildings unlocked upon upgrading the Power Station. It takes up a 2x1 space, with construction blocks in the center and to the front. Once it becomes powered, it immediately begins scanning the surrounding area. Hidden caverns and rock within the scanner range will become visible on the radar, letting the player know what's in the surrounding area. The default scanner range has a radius of 6 blocks. The Geological Center can also train Rock Raiders as geologists, allowing them to scan the hidden rock near them. Unfortunately, once the area around the Geological Center has been scanned, it stays revealed on the radar panel, making the building almost immediately useless except for training.

Upgrades

The Geological Center as portrayed in the Windows game

There are two upgrade levels available for the Geological Center:

  • Level 1: Increases the scanner range to a radius of 8 blocks.
  • Level 2: Increases the scanner range to a radius of 12 blocks.

Dependency

The Geological Center costs 3 energy crystals and 15 pieces of ore (or 3 building studs) and requires the following for construction:

Alternate model

The unused Geological Center upgrade.

The explosion animation used by default is actually for a larger version of the Geological Center. This model may have been intended as an upgraded version, hence the file name having "Upgrade" in it.
