Three Green Energy Crystals as seen in lavajug1.avi

Energy Crystals are a valuable natural material in the Rock Raiders franchise that are the main focus of the Rock Raiders' mission on Planet U. They also have gone by the more technical name Brickonium, as well as several variants of "Power" Crystal. They are probably one of the most important parts of the franchise as they appear in most of the sets and almost all media related to the franchise in one form or another.

Description

Energy Crystals are a green glowing, (usually) five-pointed crystal. They are very light, and make resonating sounds when grabbed, thrown or dropped, but they are very hard to break. Their glowing radiation is harmless to Rock Raiders, who need to use energy crystals to power up the LMS Explorer so they can get back home. They also appear to have a distinctive smell, which many of the Creatures of Planet U, many of which feed on the crystals for their energy, can sense. Because of this, the Rock Raiders often have to fight over the Energy Crystals with these creatures. Monsters in particular are attracted to crystals and will destroy anything that gets in their way of feeding on them.

Energy Crystals are seen all over the universe. There are many caches on Earth (such as in the game LegoLand), being the food for the Rock Monsters that live there. Both smaller gem-like Energy Crystals and the normal ones appeared on Mars as well, in the Mars Mission theme and the game Lego Battles.

Variations

  • Green Energy Crystals are the standard of the Crystal power stages and are the most common kind of crystal. These appear in every Rock Raiders media. These make up the majority of a Monster's diet. Being the standard power level, they appear all over the universe.
A Purple Crystal recharging next to a Recharge Seam in the PC Game
  • Purple Energy Crystals happen when crystals are drained of their power. Power can be restored to them by placing the Crystals near a Recharge Seam.
  • Red Energy Crystals are a very rare type of crystal and "Stage Five" of the power stages, five times more powerful than green crystals. These are only found only in the PlayStation Game. Their effect on monsters is unknown.
  • Colourless Energy Crystals are a variation of a drained Crystal, seen when a Slimy Slug drained the Crystal from direct contact instead of via buildings. This is seen during several of the Cut Scenes in the PC Game.

Unused Variants

  • Blue Energy Crystals appeared as the original crystal color in early PC game shots, and as the original Red Energy Crystal in early commercials of the PlayStation game.
  • Gold Energy Crystals only made a single appearance in a PlayStation game beta image.

Appearances In Games

PC Game

They are one of the most important elements of the PC Game, as the game revolves around finding and collecting energy crystals. Most levels have a set number of crystals that need to be collected in order to complete the level. They can typically be found inside some drillable Walls (though in some cases they can be found on the ground in open caverns), and are rarer than Ore. Energy crystals (four total) can also appear from rare Energy Crystal Seams.

The crystals can be fed into the Power Station to provide power, which is sent through Power Paths. They are also used to construct buildings. As the player progresses through the game more and more obstacles get in the way of the player's crystal mining, Enemies in particular. The most dangerous enemies in the game are the Monsters and Slimy Slugs, and they can cause havoc to the player if the proper Precautions are not taken.

Designation in Map File:

  • Crystals that appear in the walls of the level are designated in the Cror.map file. Crystals that are sitting by themselves in a cavern are designated in the OL file, like other objects.
